Alternative Break Leadership Board

Meet the 2016-17 Leadership Board.

Alternative Break Leadership Board members are a group of active citizens who are responsible for organizing Alternative Break programing and events.

Program Coordinator, Laura Taylor

Laura Taylor is a senior communication major and theatre and Spanish minor. She was introduced to AB her first semester at CofC as a participant on the Fall Break Hunger & Homelessness trip in Charleston. She co-led the Disabilities, Abilities & The Arts trip to Nashville during Spring Break 2015, and held the role of Site Leader Coordinator on the AB Leadership Board Fall 2015 semester. When she's not busy doing all things AB, Laura enjoys acting on the CofC stage, running, listening to podcasts, going to concerts, and eating a wide variety of cheeses. While she has many favorite humans, having been really into listening to Alabama Shakes lately, she would have to say Brittany Howard is her current favorite.

Participant Coordinators, Aly Skiko and Louisa Brunson

Aly Skiko is a senior Biology major with minors in environmental studies and dance. She’s been involved with Alternative Break since her first year of college, participating in 5 Alternative Break trips and serving as a site leader on 4 of them. In her spare time, Aly loves to dance (all kinds ballet, jazz, even belly dancing).

Louisa Brunsona is a sophomore at the College! She is majoring in Urban Studies with a focus in urban policy because she is passionate about making sustainable progress in the various workings of society. Louisa went on her first alternative break in the fall of 2015 to Beaufort, South Carolina working alongside migrant workers. That first trip was what got her hooked on alternative breaks! I still feel the impacts from that trip and all the ways it opened up my eyes to things going on in our own backyard. In addition, Louisa also went on an Alternative Spring Break to Louisville, Kentucky, working on refugee resettlement. The Louisville trip pushed her to continue to expand her consciousness. When she is not working on Alternative Breaks you can find her exploring the Charleston area via walking or biking, racking up free praline samples with my friends, playing ultimate Frisbee or volleyball, and reading!

Site Leader Coordinator, Rebekah Rast

Rebekah Rast, is a senior in the Honors College. She is a double major in theatre and arts management with an art history minor. Rebekah has been a participant on three AB trips, and this last spring break she co-led a trip to Charlotte, NC focusing on affordable housing. In her free time she likes to paint, doodle, and sit in the sun reading (which actually just turns into napping).

Outreach and Development Coordinators, Lacey Key and Shay Gregory

Lacey Key is a biology/communications double major. She has been on two Alternative Break trips, Alternative Spring Break to Charlotte, NC working on sustainable and affordable housing, and April Weekend to Asheville, NC working on land conservation. Besides volunteering, Lacey enjoys singing/playing guitar, being in the mountains, reading/writing and watching documentaries and arrested development.

Shay Gregory is a political science/philosophy double major with a concentration in law. He has been on two Alternative Breaks, one to Atlanta for MLK Weekend and the other the Asheville for April Weekend. Shay is involved w/ C40 Tour Guide Association outside of class. In his free time he enjoys reading, playing and watching soccer, as well as engaging in dialogue and discourse.
