Day of Service

The Center for Civic Engagement, the Sustainability Literacy Institute, and the College's 250th Anniversary Committee cordially invite the College of Charleston community to participate in the Third Annual Day of Service on Saturday, March 7, 2020.

This year, our Day of Service education and service will be focusing on the “CofC Sustains/Solves” theme of the year: food security. 10% of the world's population is undernourished1. At the same time, climate change will exacerbate this problem by causing a drastic increase in food prices, a drastic decrease in arable land, and the endangerment of many of our food sources. We need to work towards creating a just, sustainable, secure food system in order to combat food insecurity and to make sure our planet can keep feeding our ever-growing population. At the end of this experience, students should walk away with more knowledge on issues related to food security as well as the information on more ways to engage with these issues in the Charleston community.

The day will begin with orientation and education followed by the service projects in the afternoon. Lunch will be provided. This year’s project sites include the Green Heart Project, Sweetgrass Gardens, MUSC Urban Farm, and South Carolina Aquarium's Good Catch Program.
