Center for Civic Engagement

At the Center for Civic Engagement, we connect students with opportunities to serve and learn with passion. Through education, service and reflection, we strive to develop the next generation of thought leaders who are committed to a just and equitable world.

Our programs and initiatives help students expand their perspectives, look at old problems in new ways and learn how to work together to make change. Perhaps most importantly, they help students do well by doing good.

Here are just a few ways we bring our mission and vision to life:

  • Bonner Leader Program, a hands-on civic leadership and development program that enables students to earn scholarship funding while they serve. The College of Charleston is just one of 65 colleges and universities in the United States to offer this service-focused program to incoming and current students.

  • Alternative Break, an immersive educational travel experience that connects students with thought leaders and community organizations who are serving their communities in forward-thinking ways.

  • Civic Engagement on Campus and in Community
